a very young age. Living at the beach in Los Angeles surfing was the natural thing to do. Steven took to surfing early and never looked back Surfing has been the primary pursuit for most of his life. Traveling to distant places in hopes of finding perfect surf was the inspiration for the fantastic dreamlike scenes that he paints today. Steven has been commissioned to do four illustrations (so far) for the Triple Crown of Surfing events held on the North Shore of Oahu; these include the 1997 Triple Crown, the 1998 Pipemasters, the 1999 Pipemasters and most recently the 2003 Triple Crown.
This collaboration project with Eric Arakawa is something that Steven is very excited about. Between the two of them Steven and Eric are well known in the industry as dedicated craftsmen in their respective trades. Steven first met Eric over 20 years ago on the North Shore, Steven was immediately struck by the extraordinary talent of this surfboard shaper, Eric Arakawa has achieved a level of proficiency in his craft that puts him in a class by himself. This collaboration between one of the industry’s most respected surfboard shapers and a world-class surf artist is sure to be an exciting and collectible work of art.
Although the boards are intended as a work of art for display only they are not a simulated surfboard but will be a “time capsule” of the current technology and skill employed by the two artists. Thus ensuring the collect ability of the boards. |
